Burnaby, BC: January 31, 2020- Skills Canada BC is pleased to announce it will host its 26th Annual Regional competitions in Secondary and Post-Secondary schools throughout British Columbia, February & March, 2020.
Each year, Skills Canada British Columbia holds 13 Olympic-style Regional trade and technology competitions in February and March, province-wide. Winners of the Regional competitions advance to the Provincials where they have the chance of moving on to the National or even the WorldSkills competitions. “These competitions serve two main purposes, says John Haller, President of Skills Canada BC. First, they celebrate and reward students for excellence in their mastery of a skilled trade or technology sector in a manner that directly involves industry and labour who assist in evaluating student performance. This keeps training relevant to employers’ needs.
“Second, Skills Canada BC competitions create interactive and engaging environments to expose tens of thousands of young people to potential skilled trade and technology careers who annually attend the competitions as spectators.”
In 2019 — 3,100 students across the province competed in Skills Canada BC’s Regional competitions. Current growth experienced in the regional competitions is in technology-related studies. For example, in 2020, Nelson’s Selkirk College will host 2D and 3D animation and graphic design technology competitions for the first time ever.
Benefits of attending include:
• Free Admission
• Try-a-Trade-Activities
• Career Exploration
