2024 Fashion Technology Competition (Sec) Central Vancouver Island

ORIENTATION TIME: 8:15 am
DURATION: 7 hours (PLUS 1/2 hour for lunch)
START TIME: 8:30 am
FINISHING TIME: 4:00 pm

Note to CONTESTANTS: Basic block and fabric will be available January 2024. Please contact the TECH CHAIR by email to request these materials.

Equipment provided by Regional Skills Canada BC at Dover Bay Secondary:

  1. Sewing machines (domestic)
  2. Sergers (domestic, communal)
  3. Ironing boards and irons (communal)
  4. Shared dress forms
  5. Pressing tools
  6. Cutting, measuring and drafting tools

However, contestants have the option to bring their own equipment. Please refer to the equipment list below.

EQUIPMENT LIST:

  1. Sewing machine of choice (may ONLY use the STRAIGHT stitch function. ALL computer functions must be disabled).
  2. ONLY straight, zipper (regular and/or invisible), and buttonhole feet are allowed. No extra attachments and/or feet are allowed such as topstitching, etc.
  3. Toolkit needed to construct the garment including at least the following: ruler sets, tape measure, pins, hand sewing needles, scissors (fabric and paper), pencils and erasers, marking equipment (chalk, tracing wheel, etc.), seam ripper, pattern weights.
  4. Cutting tools – rotary cutters and mats are permitted
  5. Toolkit required to draft pattern including at least the following: pencils and erasers, ruler sets, tape measure, scotch tape, felt pens, tracing paper or marking purposes.
  6. Serger of choice.
