Skills Canada BC to Host 29th Annual Regional Trades and Technology Competitions

Promoting the Next Generation of Skilled Workers

Vancouver, BC — February 28, 2023 — Skills Canada BC is pleased to announce it will host its 29th Annual Regional competitions in Secondary and Post-Secondary schools throughout British Columbia, February, March, and April 2023.

Each spring, Skills Canada British Columbia holds 13 Olympic-style, skilled trades and technology competitions, referred to as “the Regionals” province-wide. Winners of the Regional competitions advance to the Provincials where they compete for gold at the National and WorldSkills competitions. Benefits of attending “the Regionals” include free admission, Try-a-Trade-activities and unparalleled skilled trades and technology career exploration opportunities for British Columbians.

“These competitions serve several purposes”, said Elaine Allan, Executive Director of Skills Canada BC. They celebrate and reward students for excellence in the mastery of skills while engaging educators, industry, and labour partners. Combined, these elements ensure that Skills Canada BC competitors are learning skills that are relevant to employers.”

Since 1994, Skills Canada BC’s competitions have exposed 1 million youth in British Columbia to careers in the skilled trades and technology sectors.

In 2020, over 11,000 students across the province competed in Skills Canada BC’s Regional competitions. In 2023 Skills Canada BC’s Regionals are showing a return to pre-pandemic levels of participation.

Thank you to RBC for providing funding for Skills Canada BC’s Regional 2023 competitions.
