Abbotsford hosted over 600 competitors last Wednesday (April 17) at Skills Canada BC provincials.
Crowds of people, including students from all across Lower Mainland, attended to see individuals showcase their passion in 56 different categories and to become immersed in the world of trades and technology.
Competitors participated in various regional competitions and were then invited to provincials at Tradex.
The event is mostly for elementary, high school and post-secondary students, but it also gives universities and organizations the chance to connect with the community.
Spectators could watch competitors in their element and then try some hands-on activities themselves.
A medal ceremony was to follow the full day, with competitors have the opportunity to potentially go to nationals in Quebec. The best-of-the-best could represent B.C. at WordSkills in France.
Skills Canada BC works with educators, schools, industry and government to facilitate exposure to trades and technology. Skills Canada helps prepare youth to become in volved by providing competitions, hands-on experiences, school programs, online resources and educational conferences.
