48th WorldSkills Competition Shanghai, China, September 2026

 

The 2025 competition season is the qualifying year for WorldSkills Shanghai, China and we want to take you! You must first qualify for Team BC by earning a gold medal at the 2025 Provincial Competition, on April 16, 2025 at the Abbotsford Tradex, in order to compete at the 2025 Skills Canada National Competition where you will then be given a chance to earn a spot on Team Canada.

 

The WorldSkills Competition occurs every two years and is the world’s largest showcase of vocational education and skills excellence. Competitors representing 65 member countries and regions will compete in 85 skill areas. They will demonstrate their exceptional talents gained through years of training and dedication to complete their highly specialized technical challenges. Qualifying for Team Canada is a once in a lifetime experience! As a national champion, you will have access to thousands of dollars in scholarships and training opportunities, give you international competition and travel opportunities, and allow you to work side-by-side with Canada’s finest trainers and experts! Eligibility:

  1. You must be born on or after January 1, 2004, to be eligible to compete in Shanghai (with the exception of January 1, 2001 for Aerospace Technology and Mechatronics).
  2. In skill areas where the project, judging criteria, judging process and judges are the same for both secondary and post-secondary level, the highest scoring secondary or post-secondary age eligible competitor will be invited to participate on WorldSkills Team Canada. Should a competitor decline the invitation, it will be extended to the next highest scoring age eligible candidate.
  3. In skill areas where the judging criteria and/or projects are different for the secondary and post-secondary levels, the highest-ranking age eligible post-secondary competitor will be invited to participate on WorldSkills Team Canada. Should a competitor decline the invitation, it will be extended to the next highest scoring age eligible post-secondary candidate. If all age eligible post-secondary competitors decline, the highest scoring age eligible secondary competitor will be invited to participate.
  4. CNC Machining – WorldSkills holds CNC Turning and CNC Milling competitions, the above principles apply for the CNC selection, but two competitors will be chosen instead. These two competitors will be chosen based off their ranking in each section (CNC milling and CNC turning), not just based off their overall score and medal standing.
