Vancouver, BC — February 27, 2024 — Skills Canada BC is pleased to announce it is hosting its 30thh Annual Regional competitions in Secondary and Post-Secondary schools throughout British Columbia, February, March, and April 2024.
Each year, Skills Canada British Columbia holds 13 Olympic-style Regional trade and technology competitions, province-wide. Winners of the Regional competitions advance to the Provincials (April 17, 2024) at Tradex, Abbotsford, where they have the chance of moving on to the National and WorldSkills competitions. Benefits of attending Provincials includes free admission for spectators, Try-a-Trade activities, and further career exploration opportunities. Over 650 competitors and thousands of spectators are expected to attend Provincials.
“These competitions serve two main purposes” says Dennis Innes, President of Skills Canada BC. “Firstly, they celebrate and reward students for excellence in their mastery of a skilled trade or technology. The competition tasks are created and evaluated in collaboration with our industry partners, which keeps the training relevant to employers’ needs.”
“Secondly, Skills Canada BC competitions create interactive and engaging environments highlighting potential skilled trades and technology careers to the tens of thousands of young people who attend the competitions.”
In 2023, 1800 students across the province competed in Skills Canada BC’s Regional competitions. 2024 Regional numbers will see an increase in competitors.
Skills Canada BC competitions and programs reach more than 25,000 BC students each year in every region of the province. For more information, visit www.skillscanada.bc.ca.
